Technical description:
Markel’s modular energy storage system is designed to stabilise grid parameters, equalise phase loads, improve energy performance and maximise the use of renewable energy sources. The system can be manufactured in an internal or external installation.
The battery system is built on the basis of modular MS-B battery racks allowing for appropriate capacity configuration and isolation. The installation consists of a minimum of one battery chain, a dedicated converter and an energy management system.
The battery chain consists of 16 modules. The battery modules are composed of NMC battery cells connected in series and parallel in either 9S2P or 9S1P configuration. The total number of cells connected in series in a chain is 144.

The entire energy conversion system was based on the latest semiconductor technology (only silicon carbide components were used), resulting in a compact, efficient design, high quality waveforms and high efficiencies.
The PME SiC series energy storage converters are a dedicated, bi-directional solution for the operation of high-voltage grid-connected energy storage. The increased storage voltage and the use of low-loss SiC silicon carbide transistors allow for easier configuration of high-power installations while maintaining increased efficiency. The device consists of two converter units – a separated DC/DC and a four-branch DC/AC inverter. The converter enclosure is made in the 19” RACK standard for easy configuration of higher power installations.
The PME SiC series converters not only allow dynamic energy management in the energy storage installation (charging and discharging of the storage according to the control algorithm), but also allow additional functions to be realised:
The PME22K-3LN-R19W modular converter is a dedicated, bi-directional system for the operation of high-voltage grid-connected energy storage. The increased voltage of the storage allows for easier configuration of high-power installations with increased efficiency. The device consists of two converter units – a separated DC/DC and a four-branch DC/AC inverter. The galvanic separation is provided by a W.CZ transformer. Power is a configuration parameter of the converter family up to a maximum value of 22kW for a single module.

The PME180 type transistorised converter is a dedicated device for battery energy storage cooperating with a 3x400Vac, 50Hz AC power grid. The converter consists of a DC/DC module serving energy storage in the 500-800V voltage range and an AC/DC module responsible for interaction with the power grid. The galvanic separation is implemented by means of an external transformer.

The PME400 modular converter is a dedicated bi-directional system for the operation of high-voltage energy storage cooperating with catenary networks up to rated voltages of 750V (tram, trolleybus and metro networks). The increased voltage of the storage allows for easier configuration of high-power installations with increased efficiency. The modular design allows the converters to be connected in parallel to achieve the required power.

The PME920 modular converter is a dedicated system for the operation of high-voltage energy storage cooperating with the overhead contact system with a rated voltage of 3000VDC. The operation of the device stabilizes the parameters of the overhead contact line under varying load. The converter can be operated stand-alone or in parallel to increase the power of the system.
